Welcome home to luxury and comfort! Get the most out of your Vail Candle by following these important tips to help ensure optimal results and safety.

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIPS:

  • Keep the wax pool free of matches, wick trimming and other debris.
  • Burn candles for no more than 4 hours at a time.
  • NEVER leave your candle unattended.
  • Do not extinguish the candle with lids.
  • Keep the candle away from heat sources.
  • Light the candle on a heat-resistant surface within sight and away from drafts.
  • When burning multiple candles, place at least 8 inches apart.
  • Candle vessels can get very hot to the touch ~ use extreme caution when moving candles when lit or recently extinguished.

In order to get the best out of your Vail Candle, we recommend the below pro burn tips:

For a first time burn, set aside at least 2-3 hours minimum burn time to establish an even melt pool and prevent tunneling. Candle wax has memory and will remember the melting pattern, so if a candle isn't given proper first burn time, it will continue to tunnel. If you happen to miss out on a full melt pool--just burn your candle next time for a longer time to get that melt pool going (but no more than 4 hours is recommended).

To prevent smokiness and “mushrooming,” always trim the wick to ¼ inch each time before each use. If the wick is too short, it will not have a large enough flame for a proper melt, but if the wick is too long, then it will be smoky. Be sure to cut off the burnt bits with a pair of scissors, clean nail clippers or a wick trimmer. For wood wicks, when they are cool, you can also remove the "burnt" parts of the wick gently with a tissue. If you are relighting your candle and the flame is too high, then your wick requires a bit more trimming.

  • IMPORTANT: Wood wicks will often need to be lit several times before they stay lit, especially when you are lighting the wick for the first time.
  • Scent: Candles typically achieve max "hot" throw (scent when candle lit) when lit for ~ 2 hours.
  • Trim the wick to ¼ inch each time before burning.
  • Burn candles in a well-ventilated room.
  • Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents, fans or air currents.
  • Before re-lighting a candle, let the candle cool completely (ideally overnight or 10-12 hours).
  • Burn candles in an ambient temp of 65–75 degrees °F.
  • Candle wax will only melt to the circumference of where it was previously melted. To prevent tunneling & ensure an even burn, allow the melt pool to reach the walls of the vessel every use.
  • Keep the wick centered at all times so the candle burns evenly.
  • If a candle is burning unevenly and the wick is centered, it’s in a draft.
  • Center and straighten the wick after blowing out your candle.

After Each Use

  • For cotton wicks, to extinguish your candle without smoke, use a candle snuffer to gently push the wick into the melt pool. Once extinguished, carefully lift the wick up and re-center it, and be sure to trim it for the next use. For wood wicks, gently blow out the flame, and once the wick is cool be sure to trim the wick.
